Mammoth Spring Clinic - April 24 thru 28, 2017

We had a great spring clinic at Mammoth - the skiing conditions the 2nd half of the week were epic. 

68 people signed in as participants for the clinic. 

· 28 Participants attended the Risk Management Forum on Monday, April 24th .

· 43 Written Tests were given

· Practical Tests were given in the following disciplines:

o Risk Management (5)                                                                       

o Hill Safety (9)

o Medical (7)

o Skiing, Snowboarding and Telemarking (14)

o Toboggans (2)

o Rope Rescue (2)

o Avalanche Rescue (6)

o Avalanche Science and Evaluation (4)

o Explosives (used in Avalanche Control) (5)

Each year, all the practical exams are tallied at the spring clinic and the highest performing candidate is awarded the coveted BCA Candidate of the Clinic award - This year, BCA provided the acclaimed FLOAT Airbag pack as a recognition award, and it was given to Shane Wakefield from June Mountain for his recognized accomplishments.

Shane Certified in four tests and achieved the Top score in Hill Safety. He also Certified in Risk Management, Skiing and Avalanche Science and Evaluation.

First Runner Up: Chris Hildebrant – Snow Valley, Top Score in Medical. Judges praise in Risk Management. Certified scored in Hill Safety. She is a new Candidate.

Second Runner Up: Rob Kepadlo – Bear Mountain Resorts, Certified in three tests, Hill Safety, Rope Rescue and Explosives (used in Avalanche Control)

Honorable Mention:. Jim Murphy – Bear Mountain, Certified in two tests. Avalanche Rescue and Explosives (used in Avalanche Control). Jim needs one more practical test, Avalanche Science and Evaluation for Full Certification.

Patrol Directors: Hawk Ferenczy, Patrol Director at Angel Fire achieved the top score in Avalanche Science and Evaluation. This was his last test and he reached Full Certification. C-0619. Congratulations Hawk!

The following patrollers reached Fully Certification: Todd Sprague – Sierra At Tahoe, C-0618, Hawk Ferenczy – Angel Fire, C-0619.

The APP awarded David Galson a partial scholarship to attend the National Avalanche School in Breckenridge, CO next fall.
