We provide education, on-going training, and certification of patrollers supporting leading safety and risk management best practices for the mountain recreational community.

Avalanche Science and Evaluation

This practical exam is an on the mountain experience as well as an outdoor evaluation. It involves safely skiing into avalanche prone areas and making observations of avalanche terrain. The Judges will ask the patroller questions while riding chair lifts and expect observations while on the hill. Candidates will need to dig a snow pit and explain to the Judge the data collected. 

Topics include: Meteorology, Snowpack, Avalanche Phenomena, and Avalanche Control among others.

Orica is a proud sponsor of the Association of Professional Patrollers. The Orica guide is the first of its kind by an explosives manufacturer working with the ski industry to Recommend Safe Working Practices for Explosives Products used in Avalanche Control.  The guide is available for download at the Orica Website.
