2025 Fall Rope Rescue clinic: October 6 through 10

Required equipment:

  • Climbing Helmet (ANSI Z89.1), 
  • Full Body Harness rated for Fall Arrest (ANSI Z359) a Harness rated for rope access  or work positioning is recommended
  • Leather Gloves suitable for rope work (don't bring your winter gloves)
  • Closed toe shoes or boots suitable for tower climbing
  • Whatever you need to be outside all day in October


Recommended/optional equipment: 

Fall arrest lanyards, 6 locking carabiners, mobile fall arrester, 2 or 3 60-100cm tethers, Descender, handled ascender, grillon (or work positioning lanyard), work seat (or bosuns chair), 30 and 60 cm slings, If you have specific gear that you use or want to get more comfortable bring it but don't go out and buy these things until after the clinic



Monday October 6th only: Tower and fallen worker rescue:

This one day course will cover proper PPE use and inspection for work at height and before moving outside to practice fallen worker rescue.  Will will cover OSHA requirements using fall protection appropriately and for providing prompt rescue in the event of a fall. This is a hands-on demo and participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency.  This one day session is intended for Ski Patrol, Lift Maintenance, and any resort employees working at height.

  • Proper use of fall restraint and fall arrest systems
  • Rescue while suspended from deployed fall arrestors
  • Rescue from ladder and top of tower
  • Use of rescue harness when a casualty is either not harnessed or harness is compromised

Monday through Friday October 6-10: Aerial evacuation and work at height 

The rest of the week will build on Mondays skills with a shift towards guest evacuation and rope rescue skills.  Participants should continue to expect a hands on skills based week with a chance to dive deeper in rope rescue topics facing patrollers. Topics will include,

  • Personal skills such as ascending, descending, and belaying
  • Use of a two rope system for aerial rescue
  • Setting up and cleaning fixed lines on haul rope
  • Use of rescue harnesses and t seats
  • Roll cab and line rider use for accessing carriers
  • Simple haul systems and the use of mechanical advantage
  • Lowering guests with Redirect to avoid obstacles.
  • Self evacuation tips/ tricks and best practices

All course material is taught in accordance with the NSAA Aerial Evacuation Guide and follows current OSHA requirements and industry best practices.


Candidates will have the opportunity to test in Aerial Evacuation during the clinic. Candidates who demonstrate proficiency in all categories will be awarded a certificate of completion and an APP certified score in Aerial Evacuation.


Rental option at $10 for a helmet and $20 harness Monday only and $40 harness for the week
